こんなに長く海外に出るのは、これが最後になると思います。だからこの旅に「Last Journey」と名付けました。

今回の旅は、50年前（実際には51年前）に訪れたヨーロッパ12ヶ国を、72歳の今、もう一度巡るというものです。私にとってはまさに“冒険旅行”。飛行機を使うのは2回だけで、それ以外はすべて列車で移動します。最長で5時間ほど乗り続ける日もあり、体力勝負の旅になりそうです。

学生時代の旅では、3日に1回は夜行列車、しかも2等車でした。それを思えば、今回はすべて1等車。あの頃よりは、ずいぶん楽なはずです。

元スタッフの阿部くんが、乾燥梅干しを届けてくれました。海外出張のときには必ず持っていくという、彼にとっての健康食品だそうです。そして、同じく元スタッフの宮下姉妹は、お父さんと一緒にお守りを持ってきてくれました。笑顔なのはその3人だけ。赤ちゃんはもう、帰りたいオーラを全開にしていました。

以下が今回の旅のスケジュールです。果たして最後まで計画通りに進めるかどうか…きっと、いろいろなことが起こるでしょう。その様子は、このブログに綴っていく予定です。おそらく“珍道中”になるはず。無謀な72歳の旅人を、笑いながら見守ってください。

This will probably be the last time I travel abroad for such a long period. That’s why I’ve named this journey “Last Journey.”

It’s an adventure for me at the age of 72—revisiting the 12 European countries I traveled through 50 years ago (actually, 51 years ago). I’ll only be taking two flights; the rest of the journey will be entirely by train. On some days, I’ll spend up to five hours on board. It will be a real test of stamina.

Back in my student days, I took overnight trains every three days, traveling second class. Compared to that, this time I’ll be riding in first class—so in that sense, it should be easier than before.

Abe-kun, a former staff member, brought me some dried pickled plums. He says he always takes them as a health supplement whenever he travels abroad. And the Miyashita sisters, also former staff, came with their father to give me a protective charm. The only ones smiling were the three of them—the babies already looked like they wanted to go home.

Here’s my itinerary. Whether I’ll make it through as planned… who knows? I’m sure many unexpected things will happen along the way. I’ll be posting updates on this blog throughout the trip. It will probably turn into a comical misadventure. Feel free to laugh at this reckless 72-year-old traveler.
