私は1974年、大学4年生のときに、ヨーロッパ12か国を3か月かけて旅しました。当時の若者の間で流行していた「自分探しの旅」です。この旅で得た最大の成果は、自分に対するほんの少しの自信でした。その小さな自信がなければ、24歳で脱サラし、JOYを始めることはできなかったと思います。
ヨーロッパの旅は、まさに私の原点なのです。 そして今年の夏、来年のJOY創立50周年に向けて、当時とほぼ同じルートを、1か月かけて駆け足で巡ってきます。72歳の私にとって、これがきっとラストチャンスになるでしょう。
この旅の応援歌として、私が作詞した「Last Journey」に、箭原顕さんが作曲・歌唱してくれました。旅のさまざまな場面で、このメロディが心の中に流れてくることと思います。

In 1974, during my final year of university, I traveled through twelve European countries over three months. It was what many young people at the time called a “journey to find oneself.” The greatest gift I received from that trip was a small sense of confidence in myself. Without it, I don’t think I could have left my corporate job at the age of 24 to start JOY.
That journey through Europe became the foundation of who I am today. This summer, in anticipation of JOY’s 50th anniversary next year, I will revisit that same route—traveling through Europe once again in just one month. Considering my physical condition at the age of 72, this will most likely be my last chance.
As a song to support this journey, I wrote the lyrics to Last Journey, and Ken Yahara composed the music and gave it his voice. I imagine this melody will echo in my heart throughout many moments of this new adventure.
