South Korea, Part II: The DMZ

Orin and I took a tour to the Demilitarized Zone, or the DMZ. The DMZ is along the border between North and South Korea, and you MUST be on a tour to visit it. There were many rules on the tour, especially about clothes. For instance, we couldn’t wear sandals – only shoes. Another rule was that we had to wear long pants, and our shirts couldn’t have any pictures or brand names on them. The rules are very strict, but they are for the safety of the tourists. Here are some pictures I took on our tour:
This picture is in a meeting room on the border between North and South Korea. The guard in the picture is our military escort, and he is standing in the South. When I took the picture, I was standing in the North!

The next picture is of the border. Do you see that cement block? That’s it! On the left side is North Korea, and on the right side is South Korea.

Here is Orin in North Korea!

Next is a picture of some North Korean soldiers.

Finally, here are some South Korean soldiers. They stand with their faces halfway behind a building, and halfway out. They are standing in a Tae-kwon-do position, and they don’t move. How do they do that?? I don’t think I could!

Well, that’s the end of part two! Next time, I will post pictures from our travels down the east coast of South Korea. Have a good week, everyone!
