Autumn is a beautiful time of the year

What weather we are having today! Cold, dark, and rainy. Looks like autumn is quickly fading, and winter is now upon our doorstep. Autumn has always been my favorite time of the year. The leaves are changing colors (紅葉). That melancholy feeling I get during the autumn season, when chilly winds blow auburn and crimson leaves, and skies begin to darken ominously grey. Somehow it all seems so comforting to me.
What is your favorite season of the year?

My first blog entry!

Hello! This is my first blog entry.
I have already been at Joy for about one month. Time flies!
I thought I would list a few things that I like to do in my free time. These include: watching old television shows and movies, reading, playing the Irish whistle, playing the descant recorder, Medieval European history, and singing karaoke.
What about you? I would love to hear what all of you do in your free time. Please post a comment and let me know!
Some things that were notable or things that really surprised me when I first came to Japan:
- There are no street signs for most smaller streets. It can be quite challenging finding locations.
- The roads aren’t salted in Obihiro during winter time. No rusted cars!
- Japanese people still use cash to pay for most things.
- Japanese-style toilets (和式トイレ). I really don’t like these!
- Tokachi vegetables are really good! Very flavorful and fresh.
- The price of a movie theatre ticket. Very expensive. About 1,800円!
- Automatic car parking lot system (立体駐車場). I had never seen one of these until I came to Japan. Amazing! Like a car vending machine.
- The kindness and honesty of the Japanese people. This is probably the best thing about living in Japan.
I will be updating my blog regularly, so please check back often. Please post a comment if you like!
One other thing- this Saturday and Sunday (10/23 – 10/24) is English Expo at Joy! If you can come, please do so. There are going to be many great lectures and other fun stuff. Hope to see you there!
