We started the evening with Takashi's pictures from his trip to Pennsylvania. It was interesting to see that farm production in Pennsylvania and Hokkaido were comparable. Talk about the Amish community there and the Mexican Amish migrant farm workers in Canada lead us to Kazuyo's topic of increased immigration in Japan. The class was split on the idea. Takashi told us that there was already a significant number of Chinese immigrants doing farm work. Shiho supported immigration too. Kazuyo feared the increase in crime that has been shown to have developed around the large Brazilian communities in the southern islands. A tough call for a nation with a declining population.
