Making Charcoal

| | Comments (0)

It was a busy, but very fun weekend. Noriko and I spent both Saturday and Sunday down between Taiki and Hiroo making charcoal and enjoying the nice weather. On Saturday we got everything set up and the wood slowly burning and today we went back to unload the finished product.

Yesterday we had a BBQ and looked at a few of the wild flowers that were in bloom. On the way home we stopped by the hot spring in Churui. It was our first time to use it and we were surprised how nice it was. We will definitely go back. We were both very tired so we went to bed early.

Today we left early and got to the site around 8:30. I had made bread dough the night before because I wanted to try baking bread in my dutch oven. I made bread once before a couple of years ago and it turned out really well, so I have been wanting to try it again. As you can see from the picture the bread today turned out pretty well. I also made sourdough pancakes, but I make them all the time, so that isn't a very big challenge.

Updadte: I forgot to mention that we stopped Handa Farm and bought some cheese. If you haven't had there cheese you should make sure to try it because it is excellent.
